Another year older

Derek's three! Last weekend, March 12 our little boy turned three years old. We had a great superhero party with great friends. He was so excited during the weeks leading up to his party. He became immersed in everything superhero. We watched him run around in his superhero cape, leap off of furniture and karate chop the air like he was fighting the bad guys.
There is something about Derek that makes our family so happy. I guess it is because the girls are old enough to realize that he is so cute. They get annoyed with him at times but overall we all sit back and marvel at how much he learns, how new everything is to him and the reckless fun and endless energy little kids have. He's fun to watch and he looks up to the girls so much that they have a very protective "mommy" instinct towards him. He really solidifies this family. When things get busy, or moments get heated around here....Derek just has to say something and we all end up in laughter and the tense moment is gone.
Over the past few weeks it has made me sad that we are still waiting on a kiddo near Derek's age. Is our son out there? Does he like superheroes too? Does he know what superheroes are?
I had to wake Derek from his nap yesterday. He had that look of "where am I?" and kind of a panic that comes when you aren't sure what's going on. He looked around frantically, found my face and grabbed me around the neck and then all was well... It overwhelmed me as I wondered if our little guy has those moments but no one is there to comfort him.
The news from the agency is that there is no news. Our region has our paperwork, they are supposed to match us with a child. I'm hearing the wait is typically two months. April 17 will be that two month mark.
Pray for patience on our parts but also for our son. For his heart to be ready and for him to have joy in the place where he is. We pray he delights someone else the way Derek delights us.
While we wait we are planning our next adventure. The airstream is in the shop undergoing some minor maintenance, then we are planning to head to Galveston again this year for Easter. We think it's a great tradition we've started. This time we got a camping spot right on the beach. I can't wait to have a beach campfire with the kids! I also lined up a surfing lesson for Willem and the girls! Did you know people surf in Galveston?! Should be interesting!! Hope you all are enjoying the beginnings of Spring!
